I never had any desire to trek Kokoda. I love discovering the world on foot but with no family background in military and very little knowledge of the Pacific Campaign it just held little interest for me.
So when the opportunity arose I am so glad I decided to go for it. I was a little scared of the fitness level required but it didn’t matter once I was there. The beauty of the trek just blew me away – the jungle, the rivers, the butterflies, the locals and the history. I had no idea about this important part of Australian History. I was amazed at how much people went through all those years ago in this remote jungle. I found it a very beautiful, surprisingly emotional trek and it will always carry a special a place in my memories. I now recommend it to all my friends and family – why wouldn’t you want to do it!
